Greenhouse gas emissions in 2023 fell significantly overall and across sectors compared to the previous year - by around ten percent. This is the highest one-year percentage decline since 1990.

The energy sector and industry made the largest contribution to falling emissions. But the biggest climate problem child is traffic. At around 20 percent, its share is lower than that of the energy sector, but for the third time in a row, it has exceeded the annual emissions permitted by the Federal Climate Protection Act. An immediate program is necessary in the transport sector in order to achieve the climate goals. But what exactly is needed?
