How one of the coldest, darkest cities on Earth is trying to get more energy from the sun. Residents must hunt and fish for a living and therefore cannot afford the imported oil that keeps their homes warm and lit during the long Arctic night.

Using local wind and solar energy can reduce the cost of living in Qaanaaq and ease financial pressure on residents who are already living on the edge of subsistence. And it can help the city do its part to curb the pollution that threatens its existence.
