Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaidó breaks the silence from his exile in Miami to defend the leadership of Mara Corina Machado. The current president will seek his re-election in the elections scheduled for July 28.

The industrial engineer graduated from the Andres Bello Catholic University, UCAB, with a master's degree from George Washington University. He served as head of an interim government for three years, from 2019 to 2023, until he was removed from his position by the same Democratic Unity Roundtable (MUD), later replaced by the PU, which had appointed him. A year ago the Maduro regime also issued him an arrest warrant for alleged treason, and he decided to seek asylum in the United States in April 2023. The former co-founder of Voluntad Popular, former deputy, and former "interim president" of Venezuela grants an interview to Clarn, the former newspaper of the Venezuelan opposition coalition Unitarian Platform ( PU), in which he defends Machado's leadership. The deadline for replacing candidates expires on the 18th of this week, and Corina Yoris does not enter. Manuel Rosales and the other eleven candidates who call themselves opponents have to support Mara Corina and the platform's decision to face July 28. If it undermines unity and its leadership, the unitary candidate must be strengthened. The dilemma is not with us, it is with the dictatorship, which will not be recognized if it continues down that path and sanctions will fall on it, among other things. We have to trust the Venezuelans who massively elected Machado. We are fighting right now to put pressure on the Maduro dictatorship. If the dictatorship continues to block the option, then we have other alternatives, be it substitution or channeling the majority into the opposition vote. The difference is that the name will be reflected on the card or ballot, but everyone will know who to vote for. The deadline is July 18; but according to the deadlines, we have until July 18. It is a possible card for what the MUD is. We did the primaries with almost a year of preparation.
