The Senate Finance Committee announced on Wednesday the launch of a parliamentary mission on the public deficit. The Senate plans to look into the "lack of information from Parliament" on the situation.

France's public deficit has skidded to 5.5% of GDP in 2023, according to the latest figures from the World Bank. The French government has pledged to cut its deficit to 3% of the GDP by the end of the year, down from 4.7% in 2013. The European Commission has also pledged to reduce the deficit to 2.5%.
