A woman will be, for the first time, a member of the Central Military Court (TMC). The Permanent Commission of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) has agreed this Thursday to appoint acting member of TMC Inmaculada Benavente Cózar.

The CGPJ called an extraordinary contest to avoid the collapse of military justice, but the two positions of members of the TMC were declared void due to a lack of candidates. Now, he has managed to cover it provisionally with a colonel, although the members of said court must be robed generals. In May 2021, the new member will become the first woman to head one of the five territorial military courts. In an interview with Diario de Sevilla, she assured that “there are no restrictions in the Armed Forces for women” and that sexual harassment behaviors among the military “exist and, when known, they are persecuted and they punish.” She added that she believes there is a lower incidence among the general population.
