Vasco da Gama's coach Ramon Dias quickly realized that his words were out of place, and stood in front of the microphones again to apologize. Dias and the club apologized, and both apologized to fans and journalists.

"Worse than Ramon Diaz's disgusting statement, it reveals how misogynistic and toxic the atmosphere in soccer still is for women," media personality Daniel Kaiser tweeted. "If anything I said was misinterpreted, I apologize. What I was trying to say is that one person cannot make such important decisions in football," Dias said after the 2:1 loss to Red Bull in Argentina. "This is a sexist statement, an obvious and serious mistake," commentator Lucas Pedrosa wrote online. "Most of the matches in Brazil are referred to by men, most of them not good, who make a lot of mistakes all the time," reporter Gilmer Ferreira said.
