Paul Breitner is a man of clear opinions. Only a few months ago he had made a rough judgment about his peers, as these too rarely went to the precautionary: "The man in itself, as far as medical care is concerned, stupid," said the football legend in May.
Similarly, the 68-year-old has now expressed the tradition of being overwhelmed with gifts at Christmas. "I have always been without gifts," said Breitner. "My wife and I have known each other for well over 50 years, and we have never given each other anything."
However, the former football international does not want to miss another tradition on the holiday season: "A Christmas tree for the grandchildren, formerly for the children." As long as they want it, one will be set up. " Whether Breitner himself also likes a tree on Christmas Eve? Of course not: "We do not actually need one," he said.
Breitner played for the DFB selection in the seventies and eighties and became world champion in 1974 with the West German selection. With Bayern Munich he won several times the German championship. He also played for Real Madrid and Eintracht Braunschweig.
