2020-01-01T16:17:08.915Z

This tradition dates back to 2000 and marks the start of the Dunkirk Carnival festivities.

Like every January 1st, the “Givré bath” in Malo-les-Bains, near Dunkirk, brought together a hundred people ready to brave the cold water to celebrate the start of the new year.

Bathers dived in a North Sea below 10 ° C, sometimes toasting with a glass of champagne.

Launched in 2000, this dip serves as a “training” for the famous carnival of Dunkirk, one of the main in France, which takes place between January and March for a series of colorful parades and balls.
