(ANSA) - CAGLIARI, JANUARY 2 - The "anti-pollution" cleaning operations are carried out on the tanks of the ship stranded between rocks in Sant'Antioco. The intervention started this morning taking into account the plan that was also given the green light by the Ministry of Transport. Objective: to take away from the market all the substances that can put the ecosystem at risk. Maximum attention to hydrocarbons, but the operation also includes the removal of food supplies and paint on board.
The plan involves pumping the hydrocarbons from the tanks into special containers placed on the ship's deck.
The barrels are then transported by helicopter to the support vessel used for assistance. The same containers, once the ship has been loaded, are brought to the port of Sant'Antioco for disposal. The operations should last a few days, provided that the weather conditions allow it. Only once this phase has been completed will the merchant ship be released from the rocks.
