Fatal accident in South Tyrol: driver is transferred to prison

The man who caused an accident with six deaths in South Tyrol is transferred from the hospital to the Bozen prison. A police spokesman said. The 27-year-old had already been released from the clinic in Bruneck.

Police and public prosecutors in South Tyrol continue to investigate the serious accident in the winter sports resort of Luttach. The man had drunk on Sunday in a group of young ski tourists from Germany. Another 11 people were injured, one person is still in mortal danger in the hospital in Innsbruck in Austria.

The local man was very drunk, according to a blood test. According to the authorities, he had an alcohol value of more than 1.9 per thousand. The public prosecutor's office in Bolzano also said on Sunday evening: "Due to the overall accident dynamics, the speed limit can be expected to be considerably exceeded. An expert opinion on the exact determination of the speed is being considered." At the scene of the accident, 50 kilometers per hour are allowed.

The police in Bolzano made no new statements in the morning on the condition of the injured. The 27-year-old was arrested and taken to the hospital shortly after the accident.
