First day of school for Danish Crown Prince children in Switzerland

They are most looking forward to skiing: the children of the Danish Crown Prince couple will spend the coming months in Switzerland - to gain experience at an international school.

For the children of the Danish Crown Prince Frederik and his wife Crown Princess Mary, a twelve-week school period has started in Switzerland. In Verbier, 14-year-old Prince Christian, Princess Isabella, 12, and twins Josephine and Vincent, 8, trudged through the snow with their parents for their first day at an international school. That showed a video of the Danish radio.

Frederik, 51, and Mary, 47, hope that the longer stay will allow their children to gain experience in an international environment and develop their language skills. Prince Christian is particularly looking forward to getting to know a new country and people from different countries - "and of course getting a little more on skis," as he said.

His sister Isabella expects her English and French skills, as well as that of her brother, to improve significantly over the next twelve weeks. "Technically, it's a fantastic school," said Mother Mary. According to the royal family, she wants to remain largely with the children during the period and therefore cut her official duties somewhat.

Crown Prince Frederik wants to travel to Switzerland if possible, if his public appointments allow. The family will live in a house that they have owned in the area for years.
