"Wonders at Montfermeil": a totally disjointed film

2020-01-07T16:14:29.216Z

Director Jeanne Balibar presents a lunar comedy that loses us on the way by abusing the absurd.

Around the new mayor of Montfermeil, in Seine-Saint-Denis, the whole team is working on curious projects: the opening of a language school "on the Oxford model", where immigrants could teach 62 languages spoken in the town, the organization of a trip in a caravan in Transylvania with travelers, or the organization of the Brioche Festival…

Burlesque farce, "Merveilles à Montfermeil" makes fun of the administration and its aberrations. We sometimes smile when elected officials want to establish "the day of the harem pants" or the nap for all. But by abusing the absurd, this totally disjointed film loses us on the way: the actors play lunar situations in such a theatrical way that we sometimes wonder if they improvise or have just discovered their text.
