Colorful super designer Jean Paul Gaultier retired after 50 years - noting this in a spectacular show at Couture Fashion Week in Paris. All the iconic designs were there, with modern commentary of course, and the top models are also busy. This is the end of an era

23/01/2020There is no better way to end a 50-year career. Last night, Jean-Paul Gaultier celebrated his retirement on the runway at Couture Fashion Week in Paris with all the iconic designs - which received up-to-date commentary, and with all the top models in the industry. Except for Madonna and Dana International, there seemed to be everything needed for a perfect evening.
Less than a week ago, Gaultier announced unexpectedly that his upcoming show would be his last. He further added that the fashion house bearing his name will continue to exist, but in a different format. While we were expecting an answer on display - this question remains unknown. What we saw on the track was a huge explosion of his exemplary career. This is a particularly magnificent finale, as befits the colorful and provocative designer he is, who is not afraid to break conventions.
More than 200 models came on the track in a particularly long and huge show, with a wink to all his collections over the years. What exactly was there? The cones bra, of course, the salt collection and also sharply pointed shoulders. To be sure, Gutier is the man behind some of the most prominent trends today - diversity, gender fluidity and sustainability. At the end of the show, the designer was greeted with rapturous applause and unusual enthusiasm from the audience. In many ways, this is the end of an era, but there is no doubt that Gutier can knock a dramatic exit.
