Artistic director? Why not. Beautiful festivals without politics (ANSA)

32 years after the triumph at the Sanremo Festival, 'Losing love' will return to echo in the Ariston theater. Massimo Ranieri will sing it together with Tiziano Ferro. The Festival will also be an opportunity to present an unpublished song out of the competition, 'My Reason', which anticipates the publication of Ranieri's new album, due out in the spring. In the future he could also accept to be the conductor and artistic director. At ANSA, he says: "If they offered it to me, I would think about it, even if my skin gets dressed."
He is happy with the "strange union" with Tiziano Ferro. The duet should be included in the lineup on the second evening of the event. "Titian said he was electrocuted when in 1988, in front of the TV with his dad, he saw me in Sanremo with 'Losing love'. It was he who looked for me together with Amadeus - says Ranieri - and I will be very happy to praise her with this great artist. Hopefully it's a good time, the song deserves it, it's 'the' song par excellence.
Just a year ago the author Giampiero Artegiani left us ".
The new album, the result of years of long-distance work with Gino Vannelli, who also edited the arrangements, "will include - he explains - some unreleased and many great little songs from the past that were not great successes because I didn't promote them, having left music, in those years, to devote myself more to theater ". Some examples? 'Via del conservatorio', 'When love becomes poetry' (Sanremo '69), 'For a woman', 'Dream of love', 'The arms of love'.
Another song on the album, sung with Vannelli, is 'We are brothers' (in the Italian version 'Siamo uguali'). Among the tracks there will also be 'Je ne veu sais que toi', the precious unpublished work that Charles Aznavour gave to Massimo Ranieri, a few years before he died. "He told me 'do whatever you want'. It is a very particular and beautiful text, adapted in Italian by Gianni Togni. An 'Aznavoiurian' piece in which Ranieri recognizes himself after having inserted the stainless 'L'istrione' in his repertoire .
Returning to Sanremo, after Morandi and Baglioni, Ranieri could evaluate the idea of embarking on the adventure of the guide of the Festival. "Of course I would think about it - he replies to ANSA - even if it is Dante's stuff for the great responsibility that Sanremo implies. I should take six months of vacation from concerts, theater and films, but I would be a hypocrite to say that I would not evaluate the proposal" . Aware of the media echo of everything that happens in the Sanremo area, also in light of this year's controversy, Ranieri hopes for a glorious return of the Festival to its origins "when for a few days, in total relaxation, beautiful songs were listened to, with important melodies and lyrics, with great singers like Domenico Modugno, Claudio Villa, Johnny Dorelli, all 90 calibers. I was a kid, they were my stars, I looked at them and listened with my mouth open ". It would be nice, he observes, to recover "the lightheartedness" of that time, when, as the country grew, the Italian Song Festival left politics out. The music has changed and rap and trap make their way among the genres present at the Festival. "I really enjoy rapping and trappism. Many guys say smart and interesting things. A rapper, Mc Hammer, won me over in Sanremo many years ago," says Ranieri.
"Common sense is always the limit - he adds - but I wouldn't speak of censorship. Just me, years ago, I supervised the direction of La Traviata at the San Carlo theater in Naples and I refused to change a scene in which saying 'I paid ', I pushed her on the gaming table, I took the money and put it between her legs.
He was a prostitute, that was the meaning. However, great attention must be paid to texts, violence and emulation ".
Times change and language and tolerance threshold also change. Mimmo's "Resta cu 'mme" was censored because a verse said "' Nun 'me' mporta do past. Nun 'me' cares and who has had you ", remembers Ranieri. Mimmo, Domenico Modugno, is always in his heart." We had a beautiful relationship. I recently recorded an audition of one of his songs, 'You are so beautiful and so alone'. Franca, his wife, was happy. It did not seem suitable for the next album, sooner or later it will come out. "If the idea of naming the Ariston theater in Sanremo in Modugno, on the occasion of the Festival, should materialize, Ranieri would be happy.
"It is a very right idea - he concludes - to name theaters for great actors and musicians". Ranieri will also be in the new film by Aldo, Giovanni and Giacomo 'I hate the summer', in theaters from January 30th. "It's delicious and fun. I also sing 'Erba di casa mia' with Aldo", he concludes smiling. (HANDLE).
