As of February 1, 2020, Whatsapp will no longer work reliably with some older iOS and Android versions - support will be discontinued. It is no longer possible to create new accounts or to verify existing accounts. Due to the lack of support, some functions may no longer be available. The changeover was even more drastic for users of the Windows phone: Whatsapp no longer works on the devices since December 31, 2019 . An estimated 400,000 users were affected by the shutdown.
According to today.at information, Whatsapp does allow the users concerned to take their accounts with them to another operating system. Groups and contacts are safe. The situation is different with the chat histories and the videos and images stored in them. These will be lost when you switch.
