Google Maps celebrates 15 years and is renewed by inserting five new sections (explore, route, saved, contributions and news) "to observe and explore the world". The popular application for maps was launched on February 8, 2005 only for computers, currently it has over 1 billion monthly active users and gives information not only on routes but also on restaurants, at work, you can read reviews from all over the world. Over 220 countries and territories have been mapped around the world and users produce over 20 million contributions every day.
Among the biggest innovations made to the platform, Google Earth which allows viewing of 3D images (currently offers over 36 million square miles of high definition satellite images) and real-time traffic news.
"The world is constantly evolving: new roads are added, bus routes are modified and natural disasters modify accessible routes. This is why a map must be updated, complete and accurate. The main discoveries of artificial intelligence have transformed the our approach to creating maps, helping us to bring high-quality local maps and information to multiple parts of the world faster, "explains Jen Fitzpatrick, Google Maps Senior Vice President in an official post.
Starting today, the Google Maps app is renewed with five new access cards both on devices with Android and iOS operating systems.
