Close to Valentine's Day, Facebook sees the launch in Europe of its dating app announced in May 2018 during its developer conference and now present in 20 countries. To report the news, the Wall Street Journal that explains how the Irish privacy guarantor raised some objections regarding the delivery time of the documentation, necessary for further information for the application of the Gdpr, that is, the European privacy legislation.
The Ireland Data Protection Commission (IDPC), following the request of the social network of 3 February to want to launch the application on 13 February in Europe, conducted an inspection at the offices of Facebook Ireland Limited in Dublin and collected the documentation needed but needs time to process the request. Facebook Dating, designed to encourage meetings and to challenge popular apps such as Tinder, is now available in twenty different markets, including the United States where it debuted in September 2019.
"It is important that the launch of Facebook Dating is done in the right way, we are taking more time to make sure the product is ready for the European market," a Facebook spokesman told France Press.
