In 1997 the book "4 Blutgruppen" by author Peter J. D'Adamo was published in Germany. Everyone should adjust their food according to their blood type, so the key message of the American, who wants to have found the optimal diet for each blood group. His division described in the book:

The blood group diet is not only supposed to protect against illnesses , but also to help you lose weight - but this type of diet has been and is the cause of many critics. Among other things, because a positive effect on health has not been scientifically proven and entire food groups are deleted from the menu - which provide important nutrients.

No study demonstrated benefit of the blood group diet

For example, author and naturopath D'Adamo assumes that lectins in particular are responsible for many diseases - but this theory is not based on studies. Lectins are proteins that are found, for example, in beans, legumes, wheat products, pasta, tomatoes and rice. Depending on the blood type, they are said to have the red blood cells clogged, lead to organ damage and kidney failure, according to D'Adamo.

According to his theory, most people would react negatively to lectins and increase their risk of disease if they were to eat them anyway. But there is no solid evidence to support this hypothesis. For example, the German Nutrition Society (DGE) reports on an overview study by the Belgian Red Cross, which examined whether the blood group diet improves health and reduces the risk of diseases. However, the authors did not find a single study that demonstrated positive health effects .

Blood group diet can result in deficiency symptoms

In general, nutritional doctors and scientists recommend a balanced diet that includes all natural foods, including vegetables, fruits, proteins from dairy products and meat, fiber from whole grains and legumes, minerals and trace elements from seeds and nuts, and healthy fatty acids from edible oils and sea fish.

Any diet that excludes whole food groups should be scrutinized because it can promote deficiency symptoms .
