Lidl came up with an unusual advertisement shortly before Valentine's Day and teased Aldi, Netto and Penny. But the response from the competition was not long in coming.

  • Some customers found the campaign funny, others tasteless.
  • An answer from Aldi Süd followed promptly.

The claws are extended on Valentine's Day , at least as far as the German discounters are concerned. In line with the 14th of February, Aldi, Lidl and Co. are promoting special offers for those in love around the day - everything from sparkling wine and chocolates to flowers is included. Lidl came up with an extraordinary promotion and teased his rivals on Instagram. But Aldi didn't take long to put up with that.

Flowers for Valentine's Day: Lidl surprises with bold advertising

Lidl Germany posted a daring photo on its official Instagram page on Thursday, one day before Valentine's Day. On it: four red roses . But only one of them blooms in full splendor. Below is: "Lidl". The other roses in the picture, on the other hand, always look more and more worn, the last one is completely dry and withered. "Aldi", "Netto" and "Penny" are among the three other roses, whereby Aldi has been allocated the most beautiful of them, while Penny is said to be the most withered.

Lidl wrote: "Penny promotes cheating, but we believe in true love!" And encourages its customers to remain loyal and to buy flowers from Lidl at a discount. But Aldi Süd did not leave this blow and fired back. The discounter's comment immediately below the photo: “More love for everyone! The task was probably too difficult for your #photoshopphilipp. He somehow made a mistake in assigning the roses. ”In addition, the hashtag:“ aldibesterose ”.

Lidl and Aldi are waging war on Instagram - that's what customers say

The comment already got some responses from customers who joined the contest. While a customer strengthened Aldi's back and wrote "The best flowers are still available from Aldi", another answered her: "Unfortunately I cannot confirm. It rocks Lidl ”. Overall, some users found the campaign funny and successful, others criticized this type of advertising and found the idea tasteless. Netto and Penny, on the other hand, have not yet commented on this. It remains to be seen whether they will plunge into the war of the Roses or leave their fingers out of the game.
