The record heat in Antarctica and the consequent melting of the ice increases the risk of sea level rise in the short term: already by the end of this century the global sea level could increase up to three times compared to the last century, i.e. from 19 at 58 centimeters. This is what emerges from an unprecedented comparison of numerous models developed with cutting-edge computers from all over the world. The "Antarctic Factor" can become "the greatest risk and the greatest uncertainty for sea level in the world" notes Anders Levermann of the Potsdam Institute of Climate Impact Research, main author of the research. In light of this indication, it is reported , more appropriate coastal protection planning is needed. In the long run, the Antarctic ice sheet can raise the sea level by tens of meters if the burning of coal, oil and gas does not stop increasing the risks for the metropolises such as New York, Mumbai, Hamburg, Shanghai.
