Do you also include hundreds of Israelis who flew with Turkish Airlines to the UK with children between the ages of 12 and 15? You should know that you are eligible to receive $ 100 in compensation from each airline for each child.

The compensation was granted following a settlement agreement between the company and the Consumer Council in a class action lawsuit filed in Jerusalem District Court in July 2019.

It turns out that "Turkish Airlines" and other foreign airlines, including Aeroflot, Ukrainian Airlines, Lufthansa, Iberia and two travel agencies, Esta and Ophir Tours, have charged £ 70, the UK port tax, even for children, even though the tax has only been charged since the age of 14.

In recent days, Turkish Airlines and the Israeli Consumer Council have reached such a settlement agreement, which has even been submitted for court approval, during which all passengers of the company from whom unlawful port taxes were collected will receive a refund of $ 100 each.

In the settlement agreement, Turkish Airlines undertakes to locate and find the affected passengers themselves, and repay them by direct refund to customers who purchased the airline tickets directly from the company or by returning to the travel agents who sold the passenger tickets.

In addition, the company has pledged to stop collecting the unnecessarily charged port taxes. According to court reports, most airlines are negotiating to terminate the procedure and return the full fee paid to passengers. An arrangement has not yet been reached with the other airlines sued in this class action.

Port taxes are collected from passengers when you purchase the airline ticket, and are usually displayed as a separate and distinct component in the ticket purchase process. These port taxes add up to the most substantial amounts and sometimes even half the cost of the ticket.

This is especially true of the APD-collected fee for passengers leaving the UK and Israel and considered the world's highest port tax, amounting to a total of about £ 78, which is currently worth about NIS 350 per passenger.
