Surprise at the Mestre registry office: Oscar-winning actress Emma Thompson and her husband Greg Wise showed up at the counters to register their residence in the Municipality of Venice. The two actors signed the documents in the presence of the municipal councilor for Social Cohesion, Simone Venturini, who gave them a gift from a Lion of San Marco. Thompson and Wise have been married since 2003 and have a daughter, Gaia Romily Wise.
Thompson and Wise, who showed a good familiarity with the Italian language, thanked the office workers and the councilor for the warm welcome and for the gift received. The actress, in particular, said that having become a resident citizen of Venice represents the realization of a dream that she had cherished for years .

As a first act "as Venetians" the two actors shared the #EnjoyRespectVenezia campaign and shot a video in Italian, in which they reaffirm their love for the capital of the lagoon, underlining the importance of protecting what they themselves called "the city the most beautiful in the world".
