THE ARCHIVES OF THE FIGARO - In 1991, Jean d'Ormesson answered Jean Daniel about his editorial The Left after Moscow published in Le Nouvel Observateur.

Article published in Le Figaro on September 7, 1991

Open letter to Jean Daniel

Dear Jean Daniel,

Often I hear from here the cries that will rise on your side as mine - I feel with you. I still am, on many points, with your article this week in the Nouvel Observateur : The left after Moscow . The tremendous conversion, you write, from the countries of the East to capitalism, free enterprise, the market economy " should provoke in France, as elsewhere, immense debates and treasures of reflection ". You are right, of course. But these high prospects are disturbed and spoiled, according to you, because we are in a pre-electoral situation.

"I wonder if you are not more linked with Mitterrand than I am with Giscard, with Chirac .."

Jean d'Ormesson

You get out of this situation by warning that you care “ as a hell ” of the defense of power. Confidence for confidence, I care as much as a defense of the opposition. I wonder if you are not more linked with Mitterrand than I am with Giscard, with Chirac or with Léotard.
