(ANSA) - BOLOGNA, FEBRUARY 20 - The design and type of packaging are the two main characteristics that Italian consumers are attracted to but are willing to give up to buy sustainable products. This is what emerges from the latest Nielsen survey on the behavior of those who buy goods of large consumption, presented today in Bologna at the international forum Packaging Speaks Green organized by Ucima and Fondazione Fico.

46% of Italians, against 52% of the European average, are willing to give up the packaging design, while 40% believe they can change brands (compared to 46% of the European average) in favor of 'green' packaging. Instead, the size of the packaging (34%), the range (16%), the taste (15%) and the texture (8%) count more for the consumer, characteristics for which the 'green' choice is less preferable. According to estimates, in Italy only 25% of companies offer sustainable products, although 41% of respondents are very easy or rather easy to find in stores. The Nielsenemerge survey also shows that 24% of Italians (against 27% of the European media) claim to be willing to pay a surcharge for containers made of sustainable material. Our country is among the first in Europe to request sustainability from packaging companies: for 74% of the population it is a very or extremely important element and in terms of environmental sensitivity we are second only to the Spanish (78%).
