Airport Run in Olbia, first run in a stopover in Italy

The "Costa Smeralda" of Olbia makes a bang even without flights. Closed from February 3 to March 13 for the restyling and lengthening of the runway in view of the increase in traffic, the airport becomes a running track. Sunday, March 1, "Airport Run 2020" is scheduled, the first athletics race ever held in Italy on an airport landing strip. Geasar, the company that manages the airport, enriches the "Flight Club" program with the non-competitive running event, a billboard launched to keep the airport alive even during the works, to allow the local community to experience the airport spaces in a different way , to encourage the activities that operate in the airport and to attempt a record: increase seasonal attendance even without air connections.

Between music, artistic craftsmanship, traditional flavors, cinema and entertainment for children, science, technology, laboratories, dog shows, literature and well-being, every day the airport is invaded by schoolchildren and citizens who discover a place now integrated with the economic fabric and social network of Olbia, also thanks to the presence of the University and the organization of events unrelated to the airport activity. Airport Run 2020 is the icing on the cake and is organized with Athletics Olbia, Civitas Olbia and Podistica Amatori Olbia, the sponsorship of the Municipality of Olbia and the contribution of Decathlon, Sixt and Volotea to allocate the proceeds to the association for the disabled "Speady Sport Onlus ". It starts at 10 with the races of children from 6 to 12 years on distances from 300 meters up. At 11 a.m. the race on the distances of 5 and 10 kilometers. Walking is allowed: even the less trained can admire the location, which is difficult to visit otherwise. Music will mark the rhythm of the race, registration costs 15 euros for adults and 10 for children, while for the race reserved for children, 5 euros are paid. The fee includes the "race pack" with shirt, backpack, 5 euro discount voucher for Decathlon, sandwich and drink.

From 13, then, all to "The Cook's Day". Association of Chefs Gallura, Ais, Aibes, Amira and Cortesa offer traditional dishes with local products for 10 euros. The proceeds are for the Vicenziano Volunteer Service. At 4pm "Airport Run Festivalbar Band", the award ceremony: the municipal sports department delivers its cups and Volotea vouchers are awarded to the first classified.
