They protect against smell and underarm sweat and (almost) everyone has one in the bathroom: deodorants or antiperspirants. Stiftung Warentest noticed two products in particular.
For most of us it is part of the morning bath routine like brushing your teeth: apply deodorant. Whether roller, stick, cream, deodorant block or crystal: in drugstores, supermarkets, discounters or pharmacies you are spoiled for choice. The offer ranges from natural cosmetic products with a citrus scent without aluminum to antiperspirants, which reduce the sweat flow and are therefore intended to prevent ugly sweat stains. But which products do what they promise ?
The consumer organization Stiftung Warentest tested 14 deodorants and six antiperspirants, including popular brands such as Nivea, Rexona and CD, natural cosmetics, but also no-name products from Aldi or Lidl. Most products performed well, only two were rated poor .
Inexpensive deodorant from discounters can keep up with branded products
Where deodorants are primarily intended to prevent odors from sweating, antiperspirants also stop the flow of sweat. In the test, the representatives of the deodorants were checked for their protective effect against armpit odor, critical substances, their handling and skin feel as well as for the advertising promise . In the case of antiperspirants, it was also assessed how good their sweat-reducing effects are.
It was noticed: 13 tested products provide good protection against unpleasant odors and three of the antiperspirants reduce the sweat flow very well. And that is very cheap: The test winner for antiperspirants only costs around 55 cents , as Stiftung Warentest reports .

- Deodorant cream without aluminum from Greendoor for 7.95 euros: quality rating good (2.2)
- Nivea Fresh Natural 0% Aluminum (ACH) deodorant by Nivea for 1.55 euros: quality rating good (2.2)
Natural cosmetics such as the deodorant balsam organic lemon balm & organic sage from Rossmann Alterra or the sensitive deodorant roll-on organic aloe vera organic chamomile also scored well.

- Anti-perspirant Original Dry from dm Balea for 0.55 cents: quality rating good (2.0)
- Natural Minerals with Aloe Vera antiperspirant by Lidl Cien for 0.55 cents: quality rating good (2.1)
- Dry Comfort Anti-Perspirant by Nivea for 1.55 euros: quality rating good (2.3)

Two expensive deodorants fail
Expensive does not necessarily mean good: the deodorant test also confirms this. Two high-priced deodorants could not do what they promise. The deodorant Persian Lime natural soda deodorant by Ben & Anna for 8.00 euros and also the T'eo Festes deodorant by Lush for an impressive 8.95 euros fall far behind the other deodorants tested with the rating "deficient" .
In the former, protection against armpit wetness is guaranteed, but insufficient protection against odor. And the Lush product contains a fragrance that can trigger allergic reactions .

Aluminum in deodorant: how dangerous is the substance really?
Controversial substances in deodorant also include aluminum salts , which clog the sweat glands under the armpit and thus inhibit the flow of sweat.
