The unions: 'We reject this hypothesis. Government to intervene '(ANSA)

A new extraordinary layoff procedure for almost 4,000 Alitalia employees which also takes into account the coronavirus emergency . The company asked for another seven months of cigs, from March 24 to October 31, for a total of 3,960 employees.

There are 1,175 people (including 70 commanders, 95 pilots and 340 flight attendants and 670 of ground staff), to which other 2,785 are added for incidents related to the coronavirus emergency : 143 commanders, 182 pilots, 780 flight attendants, 1680 ground staff. Numbers that will still be subject to negotiation.

" We reject any hypothesis of layoffs for about 4 thousand workers ", says the national secretary of the CGIL Filt Fabrizio Cuscito on Alitalia's request for the renewal of the cigs expiring on 23 March, underlining that "if the Alitalia numbers are absolutely unacceptable and unmotivated in spite of the coronavirus, the approximately 1,500 employees of Air Italy in liquidation are added, there are 5,500 workers who risk their jobs in Italian air transport in less than a month ".

"In light of this situation - asks the national director of the CGIL Filt - immediate intervention from the ministries of economic development, infrastructure and transport and work is needed to refinance the Air Transport Solidarity Fund and for structural intervention on the situation in the sector , in particular for the resolution of the crises of the two main airlines in the country. Where did the much-vaunted revival end? ".

"The general strike of the sector on April 2 - he concludes - is confirmed and will be the first in a long series, if you do not put your hand to an investment plan and sector regulation also penalized by the affair related to the coronavirus. assumption of responsibility by the Government which for too many years has been absent in the industrial policies of air transport and has left, despite our innumerable complaints, that such an important asset for the country plunged into chaos and the total deconstruction of the entire fabric of the work".
