Christine Clerc is the author of four books on de Gaulle, including Adieu, la France! Why de Gaulle left (L'Observatoire, 2019). Three anniversaries will be celebrated in 2020: the 130 years of the birth of General de Gaulle, the 80 years of the call of June 18 and the 50 years of the death of the founder of the Fifth Republic. Films and dozens of books have already been announced to support and inform this year of various commemorations.
My dear little girl Elisabeth,
I am writing to you - naturally the first - after the great sorrow that has come upon us. Your poor little sister died Friday at 10:30 in the evening in my arms (…) The disappearance of our poor suffering child, of our hopeless little girl, has caused us immense grief (…) May little Anne protect us from the sky and protect yourself first, my dearest Elisabeth! ”
