INTERVIEW - In the very convincing film De Gaulle, the actor talented interprets the general, sketched in his political and military combat during the campaign in France and in London before the call of June 18, but also in his private sphere.


What was your first reaction when you were offered the role?

I first saw the cover of the script. The film was originally supposed to be called Libres . There was a photograph of General de Gaulle and Yvonne which dated from 1940. When I discovered it, I thought: "Yes, it's possible." Other directors had once offered me the role. It was then a question of embodying the de Gaulle of 1958, of 1968 ... I saw two advantages in the proposal of the director Gabriel Le Bomin. First, he wanted to present the character when he appeared in the public eye. It was less cumbersome to interpret. We did not have a whole life to recall. I could also grasp her figure, her face. Finally, I liked the idea that the story takes place in just one month. A month of extraordinary intensity both historically and privately.
