The Italian #DopEconomy flies, which for the first time exceeds 16.2 billion euros in production value, achieving growth of 6% in a year, a billion euros more. This is confirmed by the 17th Ismea-Qualivita 2019 Report which analyzes the 2018 data of the more than 800 Geographical Indications in the Food and Wine Dop and Igp sector, a fundamental driver for the agri-food districts. The Italian #DopEconomy flies, which for the first time exceeds 16.2 billion euros in production value, achieving growth of 6% in a year, a billion euros more. This is confirmed by the 17th Ismea-Qualivita 2019 Report which analyzes the 2018 data of the more than 800 Geographical Indications in the Food and Wine Dop and Igp sector, a fundamental driver for the agri-food districts.

As for exports, it breaks through the threshold of 9 billion euros, an increase of 2.5% compared to 2017, thanks to the work of over 180 thousand operators and the commitment of the 285 recognized protection consortia. The system, which accounts for 20% of the total turnover of the agri-food sector, records growth driven by the wine sector (+ 7.9%) which also excels in exports. Leaders in the ranking of products with the most value for production are cheeses with 4.1 billion, where Parmigiano Reggiano and Grana Padano stand out, followed by Prosciutto di Parma, Mozzarella di Bufala Campana and Balsamic Vinegar of Modena PGI and Gorgonzola Dop.

All the Italian provinces are affected by the positive economic impact generated by the supply chains of the agri-food and wine geographical indications, but the concentration of value is particularly strong in some areas. According to the Ismea-Qualivita 2019 Report, in fact, in five regions out of twenty it exceeds 1 billion euros in value.

Veneto stands out, growing compared to the previous year and confirms the first region with 3.90 billion euros, followed by Emilia-Romagna with 3.41 billion and Lombardy with 1.96 billion; with over 1 billion euros in value, Piedmont and Tuscany are also positioned.

In particular in the Food sector, Emilia-Romagna and Lombardy are leading the ranking, with Campania confirming good results. In the wine, however, the Veneto is pulling, followed by Tuscany and Piedmont (decreasing), good trends especially for Puglia, Sicily and Emilia-Romagna. Treviso, Parma and Verona lead the provincial ranking with values ​​above one billion euros. But if in the Food cities of Emilia-Romagna and Lombardy are affirmed in the company also of Udine, Caserta and Bolzano, in the Wine they drive Treviso and Verona, followed by Cuneo and Siena (decreasing).

These are products that having their roots in the territories, recalls Bellanova, "are our identity and for this reason they are so appreciated and imitated in the world. A fruitful bond that distinguishes an all-Italian experience, thanks also to the role of our ministry that it can be a reference model for the whole European Union ".
