Twitter labels for the first time as "manipulated" a video released on its platform, and also retweeted by Donald Trump. It is an ad hoc cut movie showing Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden saying, "We can only re-elect Donald Trump." The video relaunched by the tycoon, and viewed 5.9 million times, was posted on Twitter by the White House social media manager, Dan Scavino.
For Twitter, this is the first application of a new regulation - announced in February and which came into force last week - which focuses on photos and videos that have been substantially manipulated to alternate their meaning, and shared to mislead those who see them. The rule is part of the social battle against disinformation, also in view of the US presidential election.
