There are 1,100 new beds arriving within 15 days in Italian intensive and sub-intensive therapies thanks to the flash tender of Consip, the Treasury company for the centralized purchase of goods and services. Which awarded the first emergency negotiated procedure for procurement activities related to the Coronavirus epidemic, in coordination with the Department of Civil Protection. Within 3 days 119 fans will be delivered, 200 between 4 and 7 days and 886 between 8 and 15 days. For other 2,713, which allow the preparation of as many beds, delivery is expected between 16 and 45 days. Respiratory aids are practically lifesavers in patients with Covid pneumonia. The pathology in most cases requires respiratory support as it attacks the lungs sending patients into severe respiratory distress. The new equipment has become absolutely necessary due to the high number of infected people that has put hospital structures in crisis. Currently, according to the data provided by the Anaao Assomed hospital medical union, there are 5,200 resuscitation places throughout Italy, of which 900 are private. The Italian average is 8.7 seats per 100 thousand people, in the North it can even reach 10 per 100 thousand, while in the South it drops to 7.

A second emergency negotiated procedure concerned the tender for masks and gloves, the supply of personal protective equipment and electromedical equipment, devices and related services. Meanwhile, companies that produce assisted ventilation devices work day and night, as in the case of Siare di Crespellano, in the province of Bologna. The company manufactures respiratory machines and lung ventilators for the intensive care units and has been awarded the Consip contract for the supply of 500 machines per month until July. All production was contingent by the Italian state and orders ready to go abroad have been blocked. For the company, in fact, it means quadrupling the current production in these months: in order to do this, the government will send 25 military assembling technicians who work for companies of the State to assist the 30 employees of the company in the next few days, and who after two days of training will enter in service. In the meantime, the 320 machines already ready and originally destined for abroad have been 'diverted' to Italian hospitals: 90 in Lombardy, 174 for Emilia-Romagna, 56 in Piedmont, based on the indications received from the health authorities.

"Our machines - explains the founder Giuseppe Preziosa - replace the activity of the lungs, which are the first thing to go into crisis in these cases. So far we have worked mainly for foreign countries, where we realize 92% of the turnover". And "there are 80 other companies, all Italian, that collaborate with us and that are also working at night in these days so as not to miss the necessary material". In fact, in Crespellano there is research and development, design and assembly, but without the components that come from all over Italy, nothing could be done. Siare in 2019 had revenues of almost 11 million, this year it will probably reach around 30 million.
