Coronavirus: 35 million French people in front of Macron's speech, an absolute audience record

More than 35 million viewers followed the speech of the President of the Republic around the Covid-19, this March 16 at 8 p.m.


A stratospheric score and an absolute record. 35.3 million viewers followed Emmanuel Macron's television address devoted to the coronavirus on historic channels, DTT and news channels, Monday, March 16, at 8 p.m. For the historic channels, this represents 86.6% of the public present in front of the television (PDA).

This is more than last Thursday, during its first intervention (25 million viewers all channels combined, or 87.4% of PDA).

In detail, this presidential speech was followed by 12.5 million people on TF1, (34% of PDA); 9.5 million people on France 2 (26%); 3.7 million on M 6 (10.2%); 3.6 million people on France 3 (9.8%). Several TNT channels also retransmitted it: TMC (1.6 million and 4.3% of PDA); C8 (840,000 viewers and 2.3% of PDA) and the Team (68,000 and 0.2% of PDA).

This audience level also again exceeds the record set at the end of 2018, in the midst of the Yellow Vests crisis, where Emmanuel Macron's speech had been followed by 23 million viewers from all channels, scores worthy of a final of World Cup. The final of Euro 2000 opposing France to Italy had fascinated 21.4 million supporters, the final of the 1998 World Cup, 20.6 million.

The leading red bracelets on TF1

Once the presidential shock wave passed, it is the continuation of season 3 of the series "The Red Bracelets" on TF1 which came at the top of the audiences with 5.5 million viewers, or 20.3% of market shares. France 3 is at the foot of the podium with "History secrets". The magazine presented by Stéphane Bern devoted to Marie de Médicis interested 2 million enthusiasts (7.8% of PDA).

Nice score for W9 with the American action film "Speed" with Keanu Reeves, which gathered 1.2 million viewers (4.4% of PDA), ahead of "Tchao puppet" on France 5 with Coluche (1.1 million and 3.8% of PDA).

“C à vous” shatters its audience record

A little earlier in the evening, Nagui and "Don't forget the words" won over 4.3 million players (17% of PDA), just ahead of TF1 and "Tomorrow belongs to us" (4.1 million and 16, 3% PDA).

The talk shows also filled up. The decryption program "C in the air" on France 5 brought together 2.3 million curious people (15.3% of PDA), while in the process, "C to you" by Anne-Elisabeth Lemoine, which received in particular Michel Cymes, gathered 2 million viewers at 7 pm (8.5% of PDA), its historic record.
