Sony was expected to show the PS5. Instead, players got something else confirmed. Fans are disappointed with livestream.

  • Sony presents some of the hardware data of the PS5 * in a livestream.
  • There are hardly any major differences from the Xbox Series X.
  • Fans are disappointed because the PS5 has still not been shown.

The rumor mill boiled for weeks and then quite surprisingly: Sony showed the hardware data of the PS5 to the public on March 18, 2020. Instead of a big event in New York, it became a livestream on Youtube. The fans still couldn't see a finished console. Instead there was a lecture about the hardware fans found the live stream to fall asleep. The console itself has not been shown.

PS5: Sony's console with similar hardware data as competitor Microsoft

Lead System Architect Mark Cerny presented the PS5 hardware data live on the Internet and what Sony had in mind during the development. The fans had hoped to finally see the Playstation 5 and to find out the price and release date. Sony did not comment on this at all. "Sounds like a bedtime story," was one of the friendly comments during the live stream on Youtube.

However, we have summarized the most important information about Playstation 5 . According to Cerny, the Playstation 5 gets a custom SSD with 825 GB of storage - so far, at least 1 TB was assumed, as is the case with the Xbox Series X *. In return, it should be so fast that loading times could be a thing of the past. External hard drives can be connected to the PS5 via USB.

The PS5 has 16 GB of GDDR6 RAM. The AMD CPU has a performance of 3.5 GHz. With the GPU, the PS5 seems to be weaker than the Xbox Series X. Instead of 12 TFLOPs as with the Microsoft console, the Playstation has 10.3 TFLOPs at 2.24 GHz performance.

Cerny did not provide information about games for the PS5. He only confirmed that Playstation 5 will be backward compatible with PS4 games. How it looks with games from older consoles is still unknown.

Also exciting: experts fear - PS5 and Xbox Series X may not come until 2021.
