Coronavirus: "Will the bac take place?"

2020-03-26T17:42:23.225Z

The terms of the bac 2020, whether for the date or for the content of the tests, could be known by the beginning of April.

Every day, Le Parisien takes action to answer your questions about the coronavirus. We are interested today in the questioning of a reader whose son must pass the bac and who wonders if it will take place despite the confinement.

The 2020 baccalaureate written tests, whether general, technological or professional, are scheduled from Wednesday 17 June to Wednesday 24 June 2020. But no one can say, at present, if the bac will be able to take place under the conditions provided , whether for the date or for the content of the tests.

Resumption of classes on May 4?

If the confinement lasted six weeks, as recommended by the scientific council in its opinion of March 23, this would return to the end of April. Jean-Michel Blanquer is also counting on the reopening of middle and high schools on May 4, that is, after the spring break, as he told the Parisian on Sunday March 22.

There would only be a month and a half left to make up for any time lost during this period without being in high school, and to allow the teaching teams to prepare the subjects and distribute them to the establishments.

This tight timing made Jean-Michel Blanquer say, this Wednesday, March 25, that the bac "will inevitably know certain evolutions". During questions to the government in the Senate, the minister also indicated that he could provide "an answer on the terms within ten days, both for the date and for the nature of the tests".

In the Parisian, two days earlier, he specified that "the main option" was "the normal passage of the baccalaureate on the dates scheduled", while indicating "working on different scenarios depending on the duration of confinement".

The continuous monitoring track

What are these possible scenarios? The bac could simply be postponed, and the written tests take place in their usual format, but later. We can also imagine "taking into account, important or partial, continuous monitoring", according to Jean-Michel Blanquer. This is, moreover, what the Netherlands have decided.

Another solution: evaluate the pupils only on part of the program, so as not to discriminate against those for whom teaching at home during confinement was less effective.
