The British singer returns with a dancing and committed album, in which she exposes different facets of the couple and the man.

Three years ago, she arrived with her first album and the label of little pop princess. Today, Dua Lipa covets the throne. Almost 25 years old, the Briton of Kosovar origin is already collecting a fine list of awards: three Brit Awards, two Grammys and nominations. With the release of Future Nostalgia his second album, we will have to make room on the shelf.

Originally scheduled for April 3, the new Dua Lipa project has been available since Friday due to numerous leaks on the internet. For his part, the artist has hugely "teased" this outing in recent months, gradually revealing some clips with lick aesthetics and catchy music.

Don't Start Now , first, which set the tone for the album. "The sound is very different from what I have been able to do before, but we really find my paw in the lyrics, " says Dua Lipa. " It's the perfect song about breaking up. It talks about the moment when we ended up recovering and the person crawled back towards us (...) ” , she continues. The song quickly became a great success, thanks in particular to this very disco influence which sent forty years back.

We thought we were holding the album hit there, but a few months later, Dua Lipa struck even harder with Physical. "I didn't think people would get so crazy about it," she reveals. False modesty? Perhaps. In the meantime, the clip already totals 65 million views in a month. In this title, she manages to exploit all her vocal capacities, from her naturally hoarse voice, to much higher notes, a rhythm and an energy rarely as high at home.

Thursday, the day before the release of Future Nostalgia , Dua Lipa gave his fans a final preview, with the very pop-rock Break My Heart . A title for which she went to get a sample of Need You Tonight from the Australian group, INXS. This hardly rejuvenates us.

A committed final

The couple is therefore at the center of this album, with all that it includes: physical love ( Good in Bed ), passion ( Love Again ) and breakup. But Dua leads a fight other than love, in particular through the song Boys Will Be Boys , which concludes the album. A text in which she addresses the "bad behavior" of boys.

“It's second nature to come home before sunset; And keep our keys in hand when there are guys behind us, ”she sings. A way of denouncing, in this post-MeToo period, the always pressing behavior of men.

The singer explains that in her songs, she frequently talks about the emancipation of women, but never wrote a text "that really talks about the suffering that accompanies the female condition" . "It's a very different title, but I really wanted it to be on the album compared to the lyrics," she says.

Future Nostalgia manages to combine tracks that will undoubtedly make you dance until the end of the night, and others that you will listen to more readily on your sofa. The album offers a deep dose of nostalgia, without ever falling into excessive tenderness.

In the coming months, Dua Lipa is scheduled to go on tour and go through the AccorHotels Arena in Paris on May 4. The global health crisis has decided otherwise, but the date has already been postponed to February 8, 2021.
