Manolis Glezos, legend of the Greek resistance against the Nazi-fascist occupation and historic exponent of the Hellenic left, died at the age of 97. He entered history for having detached the swastika flag from the Acropolis of Athens in 1941. He announced it the public TV Ert. General Charles De Gaulle had called him "the first defendant in Europe". He had been hospitalized since 18 March in an Athenian hospital for a urinary infection and gastroenteritis.
