The leaders of the Belgian Football Federation (Rbfa) and the Football League (Pro League) held a videoconference meeting with UEFA to discuss the issue of stopping the championship which, according to the Confederation, could however lead to the exclusion of the Belgian teams from continental competitions.
Rbfa and Lega have argued that the valid general concepts "must take into account the specificities of each championship", defining at the end the discussions they had as "constructive". Another meeting with UEFA will be held in a week, while the Lega assembly which should end the two main championships, with the Scudetto assigned to Bruges, is scheduled for April 15th.
In an interview with German TV channel Zdf, UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin reiterated, however, that "Belgians (and others who may now think they can imitate them) are likely to compromise participation in the European Cups next season" and confirmed the his negative opinion on the proposal made yesterday by the Pro League to definitively stop the professional championships.
"Football - Ceferin continued - is absolutely not the same without the public, but it is much better to play without spectators, so that you return to TV rather than nothing and I think this will happen between July and August".
