The coronavirus pandemic is galloping in the United Kingdom. The country recorded Friday 684 additional deaths of patients affected by Covid-19. A new record marking an acceleration of the epidemic which has already claimed 3,605 lives.

By Thursday, 569 additional deaths had been counted, after an increase of 563 on Wednesday. A total of 38,168 positive cases were identified.

The British authorities had first planned to let the virus flourish in the population, before turning around in the face of alarming forecasts. From now on, non-essential businesses are closed, containment is required, and only one outing is tolerated, per day and per person, to carry out physical activity.

In this context, Queen Elizabeth II will address Sunday (at 7 p.m. GMT, 9 p.m. in mainland France) to residents of the United Kingdom and Commonwealth countries, Buckingham Palace announced on Friday. "Her Majesty the Queen has recorded a special intervention for the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth in connection with the coronavirus epidemic," said the statement.

This is the fourth extraordinary intervention of Elizabeth II in 68 years of reign. Her son, Prince Charles, is out of quarantine after contracting the disease.

As for the British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, reached by the disease, he announced Friday to extend the quarantine which he observes beyond the seven days recommended by the British health authorities, while waiting to no longer suffer from the symptoms.
