Coronavirus: "After how long without symptoms can we consider ourselves non sick?"

2020-04-04T14:30:28.760Z

There is an incubation period of several days before symptoms appear and it all depends on your activities.

Every day, Le Parisien takes action to answer your questions about the coronavirus. Today we are interested in the questioning of Sandra who wonders from when a symptomless person can consider that he is not affected by Covid-19.

It all depends first of all on the length of the incubation period, that is to say the period of time between the moment when one is infected and when one presents the first symptoms. Concerning the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, it varies from three days to two weeks. "For 90% of patients, it goes from four to nine days," said a former head of the infectious diseases department in a Paris hospital.

This period therefore begins on the day you were infected. You can therefore consider that, if you have fully respected the confinement measures (social distancing, very limited movement, barrier gestures including hand washing, etc.) for two weeks, a fortiori that you live alone, and that you do not have no symptoms, these will not appear.

But beware: this does not mean that you have not been infected with the virus. In fact, a large part of those infected (between 30 and 60%, according to the Institut Pasteur) have little or no symptoms. The Chinese say they have identified less than 1.7% of patients who are totally asymptomatic, according to figures released by the country's authorities on April 1.
