Adopted three days before France, containment seems to be bearing fruit in Spain. The country has registered Sunday 674 deaths from the new coronavirus in the past 24 hours, the lowest toll in ten days, according to figures from the Ministry of Health. This is the third consecutive day of decline.
Spain is the second country with officially the most deaths in the world, behind Italy, with 12,418 recorded deaths linked to the epidemic, when France has 7,650. By Thursday, the number of daily deaths had reached a peak 950 deaths.
Contagion slows
The number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 increased by 4.8% to 130,759 known infections. The contagion therefore seems to be slowing down since the progression was 8.2% on April 1 and 14% ten days ago. The number of patients declared cured increased by 11%, to 38,080 people.
Authorities say they have stabilized the spread of the virus. But to succeed in reversing the pandemic, the government has decided to extend until April 25 at midnight the strict confinement imposed on 46.6 million Spaniards since March 14.
