Gaia from X Factor to win Amici, "what a fear"

No liberating hugs, no kisses, no parties until the morning, only tears, of happiness, come down copiously: Gaia is the first talent winner at the time of the coronavirus. He won the cup (and 150 thousand euros of final prize) of Amici 2020. An edition that, on the eve of the evening, no one would have imagined so: without screaming from the arena of the lions, without banners that profess eternal love to the singer or dancer of round, without whistles or applause. An edition that will be remembered for the absence of the public and for the decision of Maria De Filippi to carry on the program anyway at a time when the entertainment is stopped or almost, probably also forcing the future to rethink the TV as we have known it so far.
"It was all very strange and different from how we had imagined it. We had to search within ourselves for the energy that the public transmits to you and focus more on music", says Gaia Gozzi, 22-year-old self-taught singer-songwriter from Viadana, municipality between Emilia Romagna and Lombardy, in the province of Mantua.
It is she, an Italian father, a Brazilian mother and an identity that ranges between the two cultures, that televoting wanted to crown the queen of the longest-running talent on TV (and this year it stood at an average share of 20.23% equal to 4 million 227 thousand spectators).
It is not the first time that Gaia faces the television audience: she did it already in 2016 at X Factor, in the team led by Fedez, finishing second, but disappearing from the radar shortly after. "I don't hide that at the beginning I was afraid of getting back into the game. Of getting stuck again and returning to that limbo where I could not share what I had inside with others - admits the young woman, who also conquered for her sweetness and shyness - then I realized that it was right that it had gone like this: I needed another approach and to channel the many things I had to say, to find my way of writing ". And this time it seems to have succeeded: his Genesis album, released on March 20 for Sony, immediately entered the top ten Fimi / Gfk. An urban jungle, in which bossa nova meets electronics and where Portuguese acts as a counterpart to Italian. Seven songs that represent, in fact, the rebirth, the new "genesis" of the young singer-songwriter. "Amici gave me the opportunity to try again. And above all to be myself, going beyond the paths already made and the falls. It was an honor to be there." Being yourself is the diktat you have given yourself because "it is the easiest way to defend what you do".
Now for Gaia, who sang in her bedroom "and not even my friends knew it until they saw me at X Factor", the road is again marked. I am truly happy and I hope this is the beginning of something true and lasting ".
