She spoke for the first time about her long absence from the music world a few weeks ago, revealing that she had been raped a decade ago. On Sunday, the Welsh singer Duffy returned in detail to this traumatic experience in a publication shared on the duffywords.com site.

“It bothers me to share this story of deep sadness, when many need the opposite right now. I just hope that my words will serve to reinforce the idea that we can come back from darkness, ” explains Aimee Ann Duffy in this long text highlighted on her Instagram page. The singer explains that she was drugged in a restaurant on her birthday, then kidnapped in her own home and raped in a hotel room abroad.
"You are alive, but dead"
"I remember the pain and trying to stay conscious in the room after it happened. I was stuck with [my attacker] for a new day, he was not looking at me, I had to walk behind him, I was somehow conscious but closed. He could have gotten rid of me, ” she writes. "I knew my life was in immediate danger, he told me indirectly that he wanted to kill me , " says the singer.
She explains that she "fled" after returning to the UK with her attacker, without giving further details on the circumstances or on his identity, "who should be known only to the police" . Mercy's interpreter adds that she has spent "the last ten years alone" fighting suicidal thoughts.
"Rape is like murder, you are alive, but you are dead. All I can say is that it took a lot of time (...) to put the pieces together, " said the singer, who received psychological support. “I am no longer ashamed of having been hurt so deeply. I believe that if you speak from your heart, others will respond to you with their heart, ” she concluded.
At the end of February, Duffy explained on social networks that he had decided to desert the recording studios and concert halls after being raped. The singer made a comeback last month with the song Something Beautiful , her first new song since the release of her last album, Endlessly , in 2010.
