The Minister of Health held a press conference on Monday evening to take stock of the health situation in the country.

France deplores 6,494 deaths in hospital, or 605 additional deaths in 24 hours, announced on Monday the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, during a press conference taking stock of the coronavirus crisis.

Since the start of the epidemic, 2,417 people have died in nursing homes, according to the latest report from the authorities. Since the start of the epidemic, 8911 people have been taken by the Covid-19. "The dead overwhelm us but this battle is not lost," said the minister on the situation in the Ehpad.

Extensive screening operation

The Minister of Health announced the launch of a vast screening operation for the benefit of the most vulnerable, including the elderly in nursing homes. "We are doubling our PCR testing capacity," he said. This operation should make it possible in particular to group together the positive cases and to make "appropriate arrangements with regard to the staff".

In addition, 7072 people are currently receiving intensive care. 94 new places have been occupied in the last 24 hours.

During his previous press point, Saturday April 4, the Minister of Health had promised the provision of 500,000 masks per day for the medico-social sector, specifying that the orders placed with China now amount to two billion masks.

Olivier Véran also stressed that people with disabilities "must receive the same care as the rest of the population", recalling that "disability should not be a criterion for refusing care".
