Medicines can also arrive from the sky in time of self-isolation from coronavirus: in Ireland a pilot test has begun, unprecedented in the world, it seems, for the home delivery of drugs transported by drones. A solution that - if it passes the necessary security checks - will allow for the delivery of help and assistance directly on the doorstep. Especially to the most vulnerable people, forced into the home by the Covid-19 emergency. The first orders were delivered today after the startup Manna Aero, who developed the new technology, received the go-ahead from the Irish Aviation Authority. For the moment, the test has been limited to a single area, six km in radius, around the town of Moneygall, 100 km south-west of Dublin, known in the past above all for being the place of origin of some Barack Obama's ancestors. . A first step before extending - in case of positive results - the service throughout the Irish territory in a few weeks, widening not only the range of action not only to drugs, but also to food and basic necessities. An "extremely safe health" solution, argued Bobby Healy, founder of Manna Aero, since the drone guarantees "zero human contact".

"We are very proud to be able to make our small contribution during the emergency," he added. Equipped with an autonomous battery that guarantees up to 100 deliveries per day, the drone (about 2 meters wide and 1.75 high) can fly at a height of 120 meters at more than 70 Km / h, carrying a load of 4 kilos . Once the final destination is reached, the aircraft, remotely controlled, is programmed to park at a height of nine meters, alerting the receiver via message. Then, after identifying a safe place, the package is delivered via a pulley system, without the need for landing. This is not the first ever case of the use of futuristic technologies to deal with - from a logistical point of view - the coronavirus pandemic: in January, robots were used in China to deliver food to hotels occupied by people who were observing quarantine periods .
