The job is gone and the parents cannot support you as usual? Tips for students with and without a part-time job.

Whether in the cinema, in a café or in a bar: Many typical student jobs are no longer possible in the Corona crisis. The German Student Union (DSW) advises students who are currently experiencing financial difficulties to consider three options.

Apply for a Bafög update: If parents can currently do less or no parental support due to job loss * or short-time work * , those affected should submit a Bafög update application. The lower income of the parents is then used to calculate the Bafög rate - and no longer that of the penultimate calendar year. According to the DSW, this significantly increases the chances of getting more Bafög. Students can access all information on the Bafög update application on the homepage of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

Apply for a Bafög again: Those who have not yet received a Bafög can now check whether the funding is an alternative to the previous part-time job. This is worthwhile, for example, for those who have preferred to work so far than to call for a supposedly low Bafög grant.

Looking for a new part-time job: While many job opportunities for students are falling flat, they are in demand elsewhere. For example, retail, agriculture and healthcare are currently looking for students who are willing to help. In these sectors in particular, it is worthwhile to consult the relevant online job boards, advises the Studentenwerk.

New part-time jobs in many industries

Another new feature is the online portal for agriculture - here, too, there is an increasing search for workers . Students from the fields of medicine and pharmacy in the higher semester are called upon by the federal and state governments to contribute their know-how. Interested parties can find addresses and contact options at aerzteblatt.de.

Most recently, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) was looking for 500 students to work as "containment scouts" from their home office in the next semester. More than 10,000 applications were received over the weekend, reports the RKI on its homepage, which, however (as of March 23) currently no longer accepts any applications.
