"A young volunteer with a mask and gloves, in her Red Cross uniform and with a confident and determined gaze turned towards the observer, opens the door of an ambulance to welcome those in need of care. Familiar image for the whole country from the beginning of this emergency, but absolutely extraordinary if expressed in the language of art: thanks to the Master of Italian comics, Milo Manara, this image has become a drawing ".
The Italian Red Cross writes it on its institutional website.
"The Red Cross needs no introduction, all over the world it means help and care for those who are in serious difficulties, from the single person vulnerable to whole peoples - explains Manara - The Red Cross is close to everyone, indeed in the collective imagination is the very idea of rescue. How can you not thank? In my career I have always celebrated the beauty of women, in these circumstances I felt I was enhancing other virtues such as courage and self-denial, always declined in the feminine. I wanted to express my gratitude to all the volunteers on the front line, for their great effort. Everyone knows what you are doing and they are grateful for it. My design is born from this shared and collective feeling ".
