This is not the time to let go. At the table as during the hours spent at home: now more than before, with the continuation of the anti-Covid formula #iorestoacasa, we must hold on. The continuation of sedentary lifestyle, if conducted without healthy rules, in fact puts at risk the efficiency of our immune system, the most exposed in this epidemic.

The appeal was launched by the Ordinary of Human and Clinical Nutrition, director of the School of Specialization in Food Science of the University "G. d'Annunzio" Chieti - Pescara, Nicolantonio D'Orazio, who also notes "a scarcity or absence of Nutrition Guidelines for the population ".

The expert warns about the risks of developing real pathologies. Hence the advice to give maximum attention to a healthy balance both at the table and in everyday lifestyles especially in this period. But, says D'Orazio, reassuring all palates, this should not be read as a "nutritional 'decree' of deprivation and prohibitions", only a few more attention can help.

"Extended stays at home - explains the expert - can increase behaviors that lead to physical inactivity and food and nutritional imbalances. These contribute to the growth of anxious and depressive states, which in turn can create a sedentary lifestyle known to provoke a series of chronic pathological conditions ".

Further dietary imbalances, today, could then translate, "D'Orazio underlines," into a further weight increase (overweight up to obesity), dyslipidemias, diabetes, hypertension, osteoporosis and anxious-depressive syndromes ". Meanwhile, the ISMEA data shows that in the Italian shopping cart purchases for crisps increased by 31.3% in a month compared to the same period of the previous year with a surge in beer too (+ 13.8%) , spreadable desserts (+ 57.7%) and frozen pizza (+ 54.3%).

Nutrition, says D'Orazio, renewing the invitation to follow the basic rules, "must be very simple, not elaborate with possibly fresh foods and vary a lot of foods, with consumption for people of third age who are forced home, to eat small and frequent meals, which could also apply to the whole family. Green leafy vegetables possibly seasoned with lemon, these days are chard which contains an adequate supply of sodium, potassium magnesium as well as vitamin A and β and α-carotene, lutein (zeaxanthin) and C and vitamin K, artichokes, cauliflower carrots, pumpkin flowers, endive, escarole, lettuce, lollo, radicchio, pumpkin and courgettes, celery, agretti or friar's beard.

The fruit, continues the expert, must always be chosen fresh "given the supply that is in Italy, and which in these days I must say is superb, such as strawberries, kiwi, pomelo and oranges, melons, apples, pears. All very useful for the content in vitamins A, C and micronutrients such as zinc, selenium, copper and iron ". The choice of meat must not be missing while, he says, the season also invites the greater consumption of fish to offset the lower calorie intake (about 20% of lipids lower than meat). And never forget a little physical movement at home too.
