(ANSA) - ROME, APRIL 7 - Rwanda commemorates the 26th anniversary of the 1994 genocide with the national blockade decided to stem the spread of the coronavirus. In a nationwide televised speech also available on the Twitter profile of the Rwandan presidency, leader Paul Kagame expressed his understanding for the survivors forced to commemorate the event behind closed doors.
The national memory of Rwanda dedicated to the victims of the 1994 genocide usually takes place in mass gatherings, mainly in the capital Kigali, but also in villages and cities throughout the country. Today, however, there was a small event broadcast live on television at the Kigali Genocide Memorial, which was attended by President Kagame and his wife.
Rwandans live the third week of blockade and can only escape for basic needs. The country has 105 cases of Covid-19.
