ROME - Easter table in the name of 'do-it-yourself' preparations and industrial sweets with a collapse of artisan products that plummet from over one year to over 50%. Overall a drop in sales is expected compared to 2019 calculated in the order of at least 20%. A 30% downward trend for the sale of Easter eggs with the "practically zeroed" artisan production has been hypothesized. For the holiday it is expected that on six Italian tables every ten a dove will be brought, remaining the favorite dessert. This was revealed by a joint survey by Cna Agroalimentare (National Confederation of Crafts and Small and Medium Enterprises) and Cna Commercio among its members.
The negative purchasing trend for artisanal products is explained by the restrictions imposed on pastry shops, chocolate shops and ice cream parlors forced to close due to the coronavirus emergency and for a very limited time available to be able to organize home delivery systematically. In general, the drop in sales is linked - analysts explain - by the explosion of 'do it yourself' and the difficulties in shopping, including short hours, long lines and public order checks.
For the celebration of the festival, from north to south, there will be traditional dishes, from lamb and kid, to Easter cake up to casatiello, green lasagna and chicken broth. To get on the podium of the gastronomic offer will be the typical sweets: the dove, the eggs, the local specialties such as the Neapolitan pastiera.
